I want you to hear the emotions – and voices being used to communicate them – in the following “before and after” videos. Use the graphic below for guidance in identifying the voices you hear. It is a summary of a model of how humans communicate emotions while they are talking about something else. We all operate using three “voices” that can be categorized as coming from three “emotional states” – called parent, child and adult. Our choice of words (“what we say”) and the sound of our voice (the “way we say it”) can easily be categorized into of these states.
In the “before” video, if you listen and watch carefully, you will find three voices. Watch – and note – the non-verbal behaviour of the web designer as the manager speaks. Please write your reactions down so you can share them tomorrow.
In the “after” video (after she took this seminar ; -) only the manager speaks. What voice is she using?. Again note the non-verbals of the web designer and one really important action of the manager that concludes the video. Please write your reactions down so you can share them tomorrow.
